Hydrofluoric Acid
Typical industrial grade hydrofluoric acid (HF) specifications in the US and international markets are as follows
- Concentration (assay as HF): Common grades are 40%, 48-52%, 55%, and 70%. The most common technical grade is around 48-52% HF
.- Fluorosilicic acid (H2SiF6) content: Usually limited to ≤0.02% to ≤0.5% depending on grade.
Ammonium bifluoride
Ammonium bifluoride is mainly used as a glass etchant, in metal surface treatment, and sometimes as an intermediary in hydrofluoric acid production. It is hazardous and requires careful handling, with corrosive properties and toxicity, especially when heated or in contact with acids.
Sodium bifluoride
Sodium bifluoride dissociates in water to release hydrofluoric acid (HF) and sodium fluoride (NaF), showing strong acidic and fluoride-related properties. It is used widely for metal surface treatment, glass etching, and as a preservative.
